Roofing projects were completed at both schools during the early fall.  New flood barriers are now being installed on doors and vents on all four of the district’s buildings (Francis X Hegarty Elementary School (FXH), Lincoln Orens Middle School (LOMS), Conference Center, and Island Park Public Library).  This project should be finished by the end of March.

This summer at FXH, new fire alarm, carbon monoxide, and public address (PA) systems will be installed.  The PA system includes telephone handsets that will enable direct communication between teacher and school office personnel as well as first responders in case of an emergency.  The building will also have old casework removed and new casework (cabinetry and cubbies) installed in classrooms on the second floor.  In order for this to be accomplished, asbestos floor tiles (original to the building) will be abated, removed, and replaced.  We also anticipate completing the substructure project requiring new pilings under the Radcliffe Road portion of the building. In addition, Hegarty will have a full-building electrical upgrade to accommodate a new standby generator (to be installed fall of 2019) and air conditioning system (to be installed summer of 2020).  The gymnasium ceiling will be abated and removed.  The lighting, too, will be replaced.  This is in preparation for the duct work that will be installed in conjunction with next summer’s  air conditioning project.

Projects planned at LOMS for summer of 2019 include new fire alarm, carbon monoxide, and PA systems just like the ones at FXH will be installed.  In addition, Lincoln Orens will have a full-building electrical upgrade to accommodate a new air conditioning system that will be installed in classrooms. To accommodate the installation of related duct work, classroom ceilings and lighting will be removed and then replaced.  Also, new dual usage unit ventilators will be installed for heat and air conditioning. The removal of original unit ventilators will require abatement, removal, and replacement of classroom floor tiles. The gymnasium ceiling and lighting will be removed so that duct work can be installed in conjunction with the air conditioning project.

A timeline for all summer projects is being developed with Triton Construction and will be shared with the community at the March 25, 2019 Board Meeting at the Conference Center (7PM).
