Governor's School Vetoes to Increase Local Taxes
Dear Resident,
Recently, Governor Paterson vetoed a number of school bills that would have decreased the local tax burden of the community, but by vetoing these bills, school districts across New York State, including the Island Park School District will have an increased tax burden. These bills were supported and passed by our State Senators. Governor Paterson's veto now shifts the burden of costs that historically have been paid for by the State to the local school district.
Please go to the attached link and help support the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) in their efforts to have this veto overturned and therefore help keep school district costs down. Take Action...

Long Island Power Authority and School Taxes
Dear Residents,
We urge you to ensure that the Island Park Community will not lose a critical portion of its tax base, if the Long Island Power Authority agrees to purchase the Barrett Power Station in Island Park from National Grid Corporation. Approximately 40% of our school taxes are provided by this utility. Loss of this revenue would increase your taxes significantly, prevent the schools from maintaining the outstanding programs provided for your children, and might even threaten the future of the district. Please send the following message to your local representatives. You can do this by completing the email form below or by clicking on the websites of the representatives and completing the electronic forms they provide. See more...
